Going Gluten Free… Without Coeliac
December 4, 2017Healthy Hashbrowns
December 4, 2017You may have read somewhere that you tend to earn around about the same income as your circle of friends. Is this true for you? It could come down to those closest to you sharing many of the same values that you do. All of these values will of course influence behaviour.
Have you ever considered that this could also apply to your ability to lose weight? The importance of who you spend your time with, and the attitudes of those around you isn’t something to be underestimated.
Your tribe right now
Who are the 5 people that you spend the most time with? What are their attitudes to being healthy, to cooking nutritious wholesome foods, to exercising regularly? Are they similar to yours? Do they seem to always be trying to lose weight (just like you) but no matter what they try the weight always seems to come back on?
Your closest circle of friends are probably wonderful, funny, caring, and supportive. If however, they don’t know how to lose weight (and keep it off), or get fit themselves, they may not have the knowledge base or experience with changing habits that you need to help keep you on track.
Choosing a new tribe
Do you have other friends or family who already live the life you want to be living? It could be that making an effort to spend more time in their company could offer insights into the daily habits they implement to reach their health and fitness goals. And best of all, you can just ask them!
Get them to share their favourite recipes. Ask to come along with them to a group exercise class. Question them on what tricks they have up their sleeve for making healthier choices, changes are they will know a few!
Finding a new tribe
If you can’t think of anyone you know that is living a healthy lifestyle- or they live too far away/are just plain busy – there are always ways to find like-minded people who are working to make changes and get healthy just like you. You can join online fitness forums, find a local community group, make friends with people in your fitness class, or even come to one of our retreats!
The idea is to seek out those who are absolutely determined to get results, and then empower each other to get better each and every day!
